The major thinker, writer, scholar, and civil rights activist, W.E.B. Du Bois, was born and raised in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, a town he wrote about lovingly and eloquently in his memoirs.

It is time for us to publicly memorialize him as the most illustrious citizen our town has ever produced.

To this end, we have started a citizen’s initiative to erect a statue of Du Bois in a spot where everyone in town or visiting our town can see it.
